Bold Faith in a Postmodern World (Apologetics Training)

Develop your Christian worldview and discover how to effectively contend for the faith

Bold Faith in a Postmodern World (BFPW) is an apologetics training aimed at helping believers forge a resilient and coherent Christian worldview. In this programme, we would explore the evidence for Christianity, while simultaneously empowering individuals to effectively share and uphold their faith in the face of the growing secular challenges present in contemporary life.

Why are you a Christian? Why do you believe there is a God? Why should I believe in the God of the bible and not of other religions? How can you trust what the bible says about Jesus or anything? How can you say Christianity is the only true religion?  If God is all-loving and all-powerful, why is there so much evil and suffering in the world?

These are just some of the countless questions that Christians would encounter implicitly or explicitly at some point in their lives. These questions can pop up in different contexts, including the workplaces, educational environments, family settings, and among friends.

Today, we are navigating a landscape of dramatic social change, filled with tension, confusion, and conflict. This environment makes it increasingly difficult to find clear answers to many of life’s critical questions. Furthermore, the voices that influence our cultures, especially in the west, are steering our societies toward a post-faith and post-modern direction. Data from Statistics Netherlands indicates a continuous drop in religious involvement, with 55.4% of the Dutch population identifying as non-religious. Among the 35% who identify as Christians, fewer than half consider their faith to hold significant importance in their lives, as suggested by the Pew Research Center’s findings.

Being a Christian does not insulate us from the events that unfold in our surroundings; rather, it often amplifies our awareness of them. The transformations taking place in our cultures present significant challenges to our Christian identity and the very foundation of our faith. In my work with various individuals (particularly students) throughout the years, a recurring issue has surfaced. It appears that many insightful individuals are struggling with the intense pressure their faith faces from their environment. This pressure often leads to tough questions about their Christian beliefs, making some reluctant to share their faith openly. If these questions are left unaddressed, they can breed doubt. If such doubts continue over time, they can gradually chip away at their faith, potentially leading to a complete abandonment of it. (Deconstruction process. see fig.1)

Given this context, the training has been developed specifically to tackle these challenges. Thankfully, we will discover how the Christian worldview is fundamentally anchored in a wealth of compelling evidence and experiential relevance. The training will be challenging, but inspiring with no boring moment!!!

Doctrinal Deep Dive (DDD) Series

Examine the scriptural foundations of various Christian teachings

Doctrinal Deep Dive (DDD) is a non-linear series of interactive classes that delve into various Christian doctrines, with a focus on establishing their biblical foundations. When reflecting on your views about certain doctrines, such as those concerning prayer, giving, baptism, the Trinity, miracles to mention a few:

  • Are you able to articulate your understanding of these doctrines through scripture?
  • Or do you find yourself accepting them as inherited truths without question?

The goal of these series to help Christians confidently respond to the first question positively, rather than falling back on the second. How we answer these questions on any given doctrine reveals something about our faith. More so as Christians, it is imperative for us to pay serious attention to the teachings and beliefs we adhere to as they carry significant practical implications for how we live out our faith.

We have a responsibility to deepen our understanding of theology, as we are blessed with the bible which is inspired by God. This scripture is essential for teaching, correcting, rebuking, and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16).

These sessions create a space for participants to assess their theological beliefs through a biblically faithful lens. As we navigate both the challenging and straightforward teachings of scripture, we aim to become well-rounded individuals, fully prepared for a fruitful Christian life (2 Timothy 3:17).

Heart-2-Heart (H2H) Events

Enjoy & participate in genuine conversations about contemporary issues and faith

H2H events feature engaging talks, lively debates, and insightful panel discussions designed to spark meaningful conversations and reflections on critical socio-cultural issues. During these events, we explore emerging trends in our culture and uncover how the Christian worldview engages with these pressing issues of our time. Topics of discussion range from the nature of evil and suffering to abortion, sexuality, politics, science, artificial intelligence, and human rights, among others.

In an era where we often resemble a society driven by comments rather than meaningful conversations, we aim to foster an environment where individuals can grapple with a wide array of challenging subjects that test their beliefs. Our desire is to encourage thoughtful engagement with others, grounded in kindness, respect, and a genuine dedication to seeking the truth.

We encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and let your heart & mind be challenged by some hot topics while sipping on a soothing beverage.

Who Do You Say I Am? (A Study of Mark's Gospel)

Delve into the life of history’s most consequential figure, Jesus of Nazareth

Who Do You Say I Am (WDYSIA) is a comprehensive Bible series focused on an in-depth, verse-by-verse study of the Gospel of Mark. The main objective of the series is to help Christians cultivate a deep acquaintance with the person of Jesus and His identity as the Christ (Messiah).

Back in the time of Jesus, there was a great deal of speculation and misunderstanding regarding His true nature. Amidst a storm of rumours and discussions about who He was, Jesus turned to his disciples and asked a question that echoes through time: Who do you say I am?

Just as it was then, this question still lingers in the minds of many today. It may surprise you to know that many Christians still hold a rather simplistic view of Jesus, and in some troubling cases, their understanding of Him is distorted or even misguided. If we consider Jesus to be the heart of Christianity, it is essential for us to truly understand him and respond to that pivotal question with sincerity and insight.

Over the course of the bible study much attention will be given to three key elements:

  • Understanding the Context
  • Gaining Theological Insight
  • Finding the Right Application
